Delivering on the European Green Deal: A Private Sector Perspective – Second Edition

Following the European elections in June 2024, the European Green Deal remains the central policy blueprint for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Following the European elections in June 2024, the European Green Deal remains the central policy blueprint for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

For the second year in a row, this report analyses the targets set and actions taken by the European private sector, across industries, to accelerate progress towards reaching net zero while identifying areas where additional action is needed, including areas for enhanced public-private collaboration.

While aggregate European private sector emissions have fallen by 28% since 2019, reaching the net-zero target remains challenging. The findings emphasize that public-private commitment to the objectives and targets of the Green Deal is vital while tackling market and regulatory fragmentation to accelerate industrial net-zero innovation and enhance the region’s economic competitiveness.

This agenda must be pursued against the backdrop of a complex geopolitical landscape and intensifying global competition. The report highlights how private sector leadership will be critical in ensuring that the continent not only stays on track to meet its ambitious climate targets but also strengthens its position in the global economy in this new political landscape.
