Tafadzwa Dzinamarira

Country Director, ICAP Zambia, Columbia University

Tafadzwa Dzinamarira, PhD, is a public health leader currently serving as ICAP's country director in Zambia. In this role, Tafadzwa is responsible for the strategic leadership and direction of ICAP’s entire program of technical assistance, research and training. Tafadzwa leads the conceptualization, planning and leadership of several high-impact research and surveillance initiatives, including a bio-behavioral survey among key populations in the country. With expertise in the areas of global health, infectious diseases and public health laboratory systems strengthening, Tafadzwa has published his research in high ranking scientific journals, including The Lancet, Journal of Infection (British Infection Association), and Journal of the International AIDS Society (Wiley). He serves on multiple expert and advisory groups, including the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Antimicrobial Resistance, and International AIDS Society (the Industry Liaison Forum at IAS on HIV testing strategies to reach key populations). Tafadzwa has consulted for the World Health Organization on key research into antimicrobial resistance among bacterial aetiological agents for blood stream infections (BSIs) in Africa. He is currently an advisor on research to study the evolving pathogenic spectrum of BSIs and bacterial antibiotic resistance patterns in Rwandan referral hospitals. Tafadzwa holds a PhD in Public Health Medicine.
