Dr. Nigina Muntean is a Chief of Innovation at UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency.
Dr. Muntean leads innovation portfolio, focusing on innovations equalizing opportunities for women and girls. She leads the Equalizer, UNFPA Accelerator Fund, which serves as a connector, incubator, and accelerator for innovations, bridging technology and expertise to disrupt inequality and ensure rights and choices for all, and investing in innovations by women, for women and with women. She also spearheading the Equity 2030 Alliance, closing the gender equity gaps in science, tech and financing solutions.
Dr. Muntean has over 25 years of experience in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including maternal health and family planning. She worked with the UN, public and private sector in the Pacific, East and West Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia as an obstetrician and gynaecologist and a global public health advocate for women’s empowerment through ensured access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Dr. Muntean holds a Medical Diploma with a specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology, PhD in Medicine, as well as MSPH from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
