1975, first elected to parliament; re-elected at 11 general elections. 1986-87, Minister of State, Education and Labour. 1994-97, Cabinet Minister, Tourism and Trade. 2002, became Fine Gael Leader. 2011, elected as Taoiseach (Prime Minister). Current Vice-President, European People's Party. Chaired the European Union Council of Trade Ministers during Ireland's EU Presidency. 1996, co-chaired the successful Singapore round of WTO talks.
