Problem Statement
Afro-descendant, indigenous, and migrant children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 17 from vulnerable communities in Pereira and surrounding areas of Risaralda, including El Cafetal, Villameri, Caimalito, La Laguna, El Rocío Bajo, Nacederos, Sta. Cecilia and Gingarabá face significant barriers to accessing education due to a lack of school supplies, insufficient resources, and inadequate infrastructure. Target audiences
Afro-descendant, indigenous and migrant children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 17 from the El Cafetal, Villameri, Caimalito, La Laguna, El Rocío Bajo, Nacederos, Sta. Cecilia and Gingarabá.
Proposed solution
The Pereira Hub has launched the project Útiles somos todos that is is structured around three coordinated campaigns designed to address educational barriers faced by vulnerable communities previously identified in Pereira and Risaralda. The initiative focuses on the collection of school supplies and books, the assembly of educational kits, and their strategic distribution to children from low-income families to ensure continued academic participation. Beyond resource distribution, the project integrates targeted community interventions to maximize impact. These include organizing educational workshops, recreational activities, and gender equity programs, alongside infrastructure improvements developed in coordination with the community and local allies within the territory to foster sustainable and inclusive development.
