MoMEKNÈS

Meknes is a Moroccan city rich in historical heritage, bearing witness to its importance in the country's history, and central location for travel to other regions. It is full of impressive historical monuments such as the famous Bab Mansour gate, the mausoleums of Moulay Ismail, and the Al-Mansour mosque, which attract many visitors every year.


However, despite its obvious tourist potential, the city of Meknes suffers from a glaring lack of tourist communication. Indeed, many potential travelers are unaware of the existence of these hidden historical treasures or even the tourist activities offered by the city. This could be due to a lack of advertising or even poor management of tourist communication, also, the tourism sector in Meknes is not well-developed, with hotels, hostels, artisans, and others involved in tourism development not well-connected. The city lacks a territorial marketing identity, making it difficult to attract more tourists.


Our main objective is to work on developing Meknes' territorial marketing identity through various activities, including creating a website containing information on historical monuments and storytelling in the voices of wise elders to evoke emotion. The site will also offer 360-degree views of these monuments and a direct booking system for hotels, a store to purchase local products, and even real estate investment opportunities.


Moreover, by improving the city's tourist communication, Meknes could attract even more visitors and boost its local economy. It would be important to work on promoting its historical monuments, cultural and traditional events will be organized to promote the region's culture, using all possible communication channels such as social networks, tourist brochures, specialized websites, or even tourism events. In this way, the city can become known to the world and welcome even more visitors coming to discover its hidden wonders.


This objective will take time to achieve, as it is a large project that will have a significant impact on the city and its inhabitants.


Currently, we are in the preparation phase of the action plan with new members and preparing for future partnerships with state institutions and funding to ensure the project's success. The aim is to improve tourism communication and make Meknes a top tourist destination in Morocco.


In 2024–2025, MoMeknès made progress on several fronts to promote the city’s heritage and visibility. We organized two guided tours in the El Hadim area with nearly ten participants, collaborated with local authorities in charge of tourism to secure youth-dedicated spaces, and began preparing a structured program for the promotion of Meknes. The MoMeknès website was also completed and is now ready.
