Digitalization vastly and rapidly changes society, especially the labor market. And while the Fourth Industrial Revolution is enabling new opportunities, it’s also contributing to a widening inequality gap.

To close the growing digital divide in Germany, Munich Hub aims to teach middle-school students from weak socioeconomic backgrounds the basics of coding. Our tutors use a hands-on, two-month curriculum to introduce and build coding capabilities and integrate coding frameworks into traditional lesson planning.

HUB ACTIVITIES:

The digitalstun.de project recruited volunteer tutors who went to different partner schools to teach children our curriculum.

SHORT-TERM GOALS /RESULTS:

The project managed to reach about 250 students over the timespan of 4 years. The children were able to learn about the basics of coding and to experience the tech behind the tech.

LONG-TERM GOALS /RESULTS:

It was proposed to facilitate internships with technology companies for interested students who performed well in class. The long term impact however was not tracked in a profound way.

Empowered more than 250 students aged between 8 and 12 with coding skills. The initiative is based on the voluntary work of young professionals to prepare students for the labour market of tomorrow.
