Problem Statement

Environmental awareness is an incredibly important part of our lives. In order to protect the sustainability of the planet, everyone needs to commit to becoming more environmentally aware. Environmental degradation is detrimental and is jeopardising the long-term health and security of animals, plants and humans.

Proposed Solution

Caracas O212 is a project launched by the Caracas Global Shapers Hub that promotes the discussion and dissemination of environmental issues as well as the execution of actions to improve the state of the world using a local context with a global approach.

Through this project, we want to raise awareness in the citizens of Caracas about Venezuela's environmental situation, focusing on the problems that affect our city the most.

Hub Activities

To fulfill this goal, The Caracas Hub will develop the following activities:

1. Virtual seminars: aim at the general public with presentations adjusted to the age of the group (children, adolescents, adults). For these seminars, we will use the presentation of The Climate Reality Project adjusted to the local context.

Leader: Génesis Yánes (as a shaper and climate reality leader).

2. Nursery plant: an environmental nursery initiative that seeks to generate mobilization of ecological restoration in the context of the quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it will consist of a first phase where the shapers of the Caracas hub, will adopt a plant (a native tree) in the phase of the nursery, which they will take care of until the quarantine ends, then the trees will be transplanted in the Ecological Reserve of the Simón Bolívar University.
