Shirley Wang is founder and chief executive officer of Plastpro Inc., a leading millwork products importer, manufacturer and distributor headquartered in Los Angeles with revenues of over $100 million.
Plastpro provides fiberglass doors with Hydroshield TechnologyTM, polyfiber door frames, patented snap-on doorlite frames and plastic wainscoting. In 2005, Plastpro built the world’s first and largest state-of-the art fully automated 200,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Mrs. Wang sits on the Board of Trustees at Harvard Westlake while also serving as the Chair of their Education Committee. Recently, the Wangs provided the lead donation of $5 million for Harvard Westlake’s Wang Hall. Mrs. Wang is currently the Chair Elect for the UCLA Foundation Board and the Chair of the UCLA Nominations and Governance Committee. Together with her husband, the Wang’s have endowed a chair at the UCLA Asian American Studies Center for a national program focused on US-China relations. Furthermore, the Wang’s recently gifted $1 million in scholarships for middle-income UCLA students and for study abroad programs.
Through the Walter and Shirley Wang Foundation, Mrs. Wang and her husband, Walter, were the first and major sponsors of the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary Becoming American: The Chinese Experience by Bill Moyers. Mrs. Wang and her husband, Walter, also gave the initial support for the China AIDS documentary, The Blood of Yingzhou District, which won the 2007 Academy Award for short documentary. They also supported The Warriors of Qiugang, which was nominated for the 2010 Academy Award for short documentary and resulted in the Chinese government’s committing $30 million to clean up the toxic waste around the waterway where the film is set. For these media endeavors, Mrs. Wang received the Media Advocate Award from the Asian Business Association.
The Wangs have also funded four staff positions at APALC, an organization focused on providing legal services to immigrant domestic-violence survivors and received 2010 APALC Public Service award. In May 2011, Shirley Wang was also awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her contributions to America.
She earned an MBA from Columbia University, and received her bachelor’s degree in communications from UCLA.
