Sharanya Sekaram

Global Shaper, Colombo Hub

Sharanya identifies as a Gender Activist and writer and activist. Specifically, she is currently focused on the gender and feminist discourse on online spaces, education, and cyber exploitation and violence in South Asia.
She works primarily with the Grassrooted Trust. The Grassrooted Trust works on sexual and reproductive health education, including HIV, with survivors of gender-based and intimate partner violence, including those victimised in the cyber space as well as with several private sector organizations to combat workplace sexual harassment. They advocate for age-appropriate relationship education in schools, and are also part of the partnership that runs bakamoono.lk, an online portal in Sinhala, Tamil and English on sexual and reproductive health and rights, ensuring that people can access information in a language they understand, and develops engaging and creative content on a variety of platforms.
Sharanya pens a regular column ‘The F Word: Let’s Talk Feminism and Gender’ and she served as the Deputy Curator of the Colombo Hub for 2014/2015, Curator for 2015/2016, and was the Project Chairperson for Shape South Asia 2016.
