Shahril Hamdan

Managing Director, Watchtower Advisory

Over the last two decades Shahril Hamdan has built a tri-sector career in the public, private, and non-profit spaces. He now brings these experiences to bear in his activities in tech, investments and digital media.

Shahril co-owns Keluar Sekejap Media, Malaysia’s newest digital media company housing a series of productions including its anchor podcast covering policy, politics and current affairs - which he co-hosts. This builds in part on his years in politics and government.

His current day job is as Managing Director and Head of Southeast Asia for a global technology growth investor - which also helps him frame discussions around technology, power and sovereignty for his newest podcast, Keris and Silicon.

Prior to his current activities, Shahril was Economic Director in the Prime Minister’s Office and was a member of the National Economic Action Council.

In his 20s, he was a consultant with McKinsey and Company, where he worked across Southeast Asia advising multinational clients across various industries, after which he ran a mid-sized energy services company with footprint across various countries.

Other past associations include being a Visiting Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Shahril holds a BA in Economics from the University of Manchester (2008) and an MSc in Race, Ethnicity and Postcolonial Studies, LSE (2011) where he also won the Hobhouse Memorial Prize for graduating top of his class that year.
