Has held numerous positions and played various roles in the public life of Ghana. Most recent positions include: 1997-2001 and 2001-05, NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa constituency. 1997-2001, Chairperson, Parliament’s Standing Committee on Subsidiary Legislation, Ranking Minority Member on Parliament's Select Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Spokesperson on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. 2001-03, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Member, Judicial Council, Member, General Legal Council, Member, Board of Legal Education, Chairperson, Legal Service Board, Member, Ghana Investors Advisory Council and Member, Ghana Aids Commission. 2005-09, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South constituency. 2003-07, Minister for Foreign Affairs. Ran for the office of President of Ghana on three occasions. 2014, re-elected to lead the New Patriotic Party into the December 2016 general elections. December 2016, elected President of Ghana.
