Husain Abdullah

Executive Director, Government Advisory, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

Husain Abdullah is currently Executive Director at the Tony Blair Institute’s (TBI) government advisory platform. In this role, he leads teams of policy, industry and political strategy experts embedded with heads of government around the world.

In a crowded arena of competing agendas, Husain helps leaders make decisions better and faster. By methodically prioritizing domestic policy priorities and overhauling foreign policy priorities to align, he’s consistently ensured that long term outcomes aren’t compromised by day-to-day firefighting customary to any head of government’s modern political reality. In this capacity, Husain also often tends to focus on driving large and complicated implementation programs (four-year agenda setting, government redesign, economic modernization, defence and security cooperation, summit preparation/negotiation etc.) that require an integrated understanding of the political, economic and security drivers of inertia or change.

On the private sector side, he helps private markets investors source new and often difficult to find opportunities (in highly regulated sectors like energy, and infrastructure), assess them, and debottleneck execution.

Husain also guides TBI’s international strategy and relationships, and plays a central role in shaping and executing Mr. Blair’s vision. This includes managing relationships with heads of state, business leaders, philanthropists, and NGOs around the globe.

Husain was previously at Booz Allen Hamilton (New York and Washington D.C), working across the firm’s foreign affairs and financial services practices. Prior to that, he had stints at a growth equity firm, the United Nations and a foreign policy think tank where he worked on energy related issues.
