Hazhir Azeez

Global Shaper, Erbil Hub

Hazhir is a seasoned political and economic analyst currently serving at the Kurdistan Region Presidency within the Office of the President. With a strong academic foundation, he holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in International Studies, specializing in politics, international relations (IR), and economics. His academic and professional journey has been dedicated to advancing policy analysis, promoting peacebuilding, and fostering sustainable development in conflict-affected areas.
In response to the humanitarian crisis following the ISIS invasion in 2013, Hazhir took a proactive leadership role by initiating and implementing a series of humanitarian projects aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. These projects focused on delivering essential aid, including shelter and food supplies, in collaboration with both local stakeholders and international humanitarian organizations. His initiatives provided life-saving support to vulnerable communities at a critical time of regional instability.
Beyond emergency response, Hazhir has been actively engaged in long-term peacebuilding and social cohesion efforts. He has designed and led initiatives to raise social awareness, foster intercommunal dialogue, and promote peaceful coexistence among Iraq’s ethnically and religiously diverse populations. His commitment to these values was evident in his role within the Global Shapers Community, a World Economic Forum initiative, where he successfully organized a series of Intra-Youth Dialogues. These dialogues brought together young leaders from various religious and ethnic backgrounds across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to engage in constructive conversations around mutual respect, inclusion, and cooperation.
Hazhir has also held a leadership role as Project Manager at Almesalla Organization, where he directed a significant post-conflict project on social cohesion and peacebuilding in the Nineveh Governorate. This region, heavily affected by ISIS occupation, required nuanced approaches to reconciliation and recovery. Under his guidance, the project implemented strategic community programs to bridge divides and rebuild trust among previously fragmented groups.
In the realm of environmental advocacy and entrepreneurship, Hazhir is the Co-Founder of two impactful initiatives: the Swedish Jingedosty Organization and the Recycle Me App. Both entities aim to tackle environmental challenges by raising public awareness and encouraging eco-friendly practices throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. His work reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, civic responsibility, and grassroots innovation.
Hazhir’s contributions have earned him national and international recognition. He was honored with the Youngest Successful Journalist Prize in 2011, selected as an International Speaker at the World Youth Conference 2016 in India, and nominated for Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia in 2017. Additionally, he was invited as an honored guest to the United Nations Headquarters and was the recipient of the World Youth Prize 2018, awarded by the International Youth Committee in recognition of his leadership and impact on youth and peace initiatives.
