George Kotsovos: Executive Vice President, Energy & Infrastructure Finance, Investment Banking, The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited
George has worked for Standard Bank since 1992 and in its operations in Johannesburg, Kinshasa, London, Harare and Beijing. His career in Project Finance began in 1999 at Standard Bank where he was also involved in the financing of a number of accommodation PPPs, major toll roads and the multi-billion Gautrain high-speed rail project. He was instrumental in setting-up the Bank’s Power and Infrastructure financing business in London in 2008 where he was involved in leading lending mandates in emerging markets, including Russia and Turkey. He is now based in Johannesburg where he has responsibility to develop the Bank’s lending franchise in the energy and infrastructure sectors across the African continent and he has been involved in leading the execution of a number of key projects across energy and infrastructure, including the recent financing of renewable and other energy generation assets, LNG infrastructure, hospitals, port & logistics projects in markets such as South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
George holds BSc, BCom (Hons) qualifications from the University of the Witwatersrand, and has completed an Executive Education programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. He speaks English, Afrikaans, Greek and French.
