Alice Usanase

Chief of Staff to the Group CEO and Senior Director, Corporate Development, Africa50

Alice Usanase is a sovereign and institutional capital strategist with more than 17 years of experience at the intersection of growth finance, trade and regional integration, economic diplomacy, and sustainable infrastructure investment across Africa and the Global South. She specialises in mobilising institutional capital, building sovereign partnerships, and translating complex policy environments into bankable investment opportunities across frontier and emerging markets.
At Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investor and asset manager, she leads corporate development and strategic partnerships — driving enterprise-wide coordination and building the institutional bridges that connect global capital with Africa’s infrastructure and energy transition pipeline.
Previously at the Africa Finance Corporation, Alice mobilised more than $2 billion in sovereign equity and institutional capital — diversifying AFC’s shareholder base across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond, including AFC’s first non-African member state — and structured a financing portfolio exceeding $5 billion across Egypt, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal. She led the largest membership expansion in AFC’s history, growing from 17 to 46 countries through treaty-level negotiations with 29 African governments, contributing to AFC scaling its balance sheet from $4 billion to $10 billion within five years.
Earlier at the World Bank Group and IFC, Alice worked on regional trade policy and economic integration across East Africa, including frameworks supporting the East African Single Visa and cross-border energy reform.
Alice serves on the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on the Equitable Transition and was recognised as a WEF Young Global Leader in 2024. She is co-author of Infrastructure Financing in Sub-Saharan Africa: Best Practices from Ten Years in the Field.
