Alfonso is an Environmental engineer from the Universidad de los Andes, passionate about rural development, forest conservation, sustainable agriculture, bioeconomy and food systems. With experience and motivation in issues concerning the environmental impacts of extractive activities, such as mining and oil, small and large-scale agriculture, and plastic pollution. He is also interested in topics related to the impacts, adaptation, and mitigation of the effects of climate change on fragile communities and ecosystems. He has previously worked in WWF Colombia jointly with the WEF Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) and the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) looking to implement strategies to improve Colombia's food systems. During his previous role as the Forest and Land Use Programme Officer in the British Embassy in Bogota, coordinating high-level engagement towards increasing ambition in Colombia's government, monitoring UK investments to guarantee value for money, and delivering projects to tackle deforestation in the Amazon. He is currently working for a NYC based consultancy firm called Myzelio as the Head of Climate and Regenerative Food Systems. He supervises the designing and implementation of sustainability strategies for agriculture and tourism companies. Alfonso's aims to promote regenerative agriculture practices and biodiversity-based opportunities for young people living in rural areas worldwide. I have been a Global Shaper since 2019, playing a leadership role in the development of several projects related to environmental education, ecosystem retoration and advocacy - leading the first ever Global Shapers participation in the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16) with a academic, political and cultural agenda. I am also the 2025 co-chair of the Generation Restoration Youth from the 1t.org initiative.
