Alexander Cheng

Global Shaper, Sydney Hub

Alex Cheng is an entrepreneurial operator, strategist, and storyteller whose work spans technology, social impact, and the arts. He partners with organisations ranging from global philanthropies and nonprofits to multinational corporations, and emerging technology companies, helping them develop strategy, navigate change, and tell compelling stories.

Beginning his career at L.E.K. Consulting and Social Ventures Australia (SVA), Alex has worked across strategy, organisational transformation, and social impact, including supporting Australia’s national multicultural broadcaster (SBS) to develop its inaugural First Nations Strategy and advising a Group of Eight university on its commercial partnerships' strategy.

He founded Careers in Colour, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse professionals to succeed in the workplace, led Australia’s largest professional LGBTQIA+ mentoring programs, and currently serves as a Board Observer at the Sydney Theatre Company, where he supports the organisation’s artistic and civic mission.

Outside of work, Alex is an improviser and physical performer whose artistic practice explores performance, play, and meaning making. He has been recognised as a 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian Australian and a 30 Under 30 Outstanding LGBTQIA+ Leader and will commence a Master of Global Affairs at Tsinghua University as a Schwarzman Scholar.
