One of the largest venture capital firms in Europe, founded as Benchmark Europe in 2000 by Benchmark Capital, a US Silicon Valley venture firm. It manages around US$ 1.9 billion in committed venture capital and its most recent fund, Balderton IV, was raised in December 2008. It has backed several highly successful companies including MySQL, which was sold for US$ 1 billion to Sun; Bebo, which was sold for US$ 850 million to AOL; and ScanSafe, which was sold to Cisco for US$ 183 million.
