PhD in Social Sciences and was educated at Oxford, Sussex and the Open University. Social entrepreneur. Recent work has focused on designing 21st century public services: practical, affordable solutions that address big social challenges resulting from changing demographics, new lifestyles and global resource constraints. Recent work includes national-scaling enterprises serving older people, families in chronic crisis, and innovation work on unemployment and chronic disease. Other award-winning work includes a radical rethink of the prison system and a new approach to designing schools for the 21st century. Formerly: Founder of Participle, Director of RED at the UK Design Council and a Founding Director of Do Tank and School Works. Also worked for the World Bank. Author of Radical Help - on how we can revolutionize welfare states (2018). Named UK Designer of the Year in 2005 in recognition for work on welfare reform.
