Alejandro R.-P. Montblanch, PhD Cantab., leads the quantum communication and networking efforts at HSBC, where he helps shape the bank’s strategy for quantum-safe cryptography and quantum communications. At HSBC, he is driving pioneering initiatives, including early pilots of quantum key distribution for financial applications, the development of cryptographic inventory frameworks, advancing post-quantum cryptography adoption, and collaborating with regulators to explore quantum technologies for financial resilience. His work in HSBC has been recognised with an FSTech award in the UK. Dr. Montblanch has over 10 years of experience working with the most advanced quantum technologies in elite institutions, has published in the leading scientific journals in the world, including Nature, holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from Cambridge, was a visiting scholar at Harvard, and holds several master’s degrees.
