The ocean absorbs a lot of heat. But how does that help fight climate change?
Without the ocean, our planet would warm much more rapidly. The ocean absorbs 90% of the excess heat produced by global warming. That’s because of water’s high heat capacity. It takes a lot of energy to heat up water compared with air, which has a much lower heat capacity.
