COP15 Deal: To Protect 30% of The Planet’s Land and Sea by 2030
Delegates agreed to safeguard plant and animal life in a historic deal at the UN biodiversity summit in Montreal. It is what’s known as the ‘30 by 30’ plan. Indigenous and traditional lands will count as part of this 30%. The COP15 deal also aims to restore 30% of degraded areas by 2030, up from an earlier target of 20%, cut food waste in half, and defend areas that are especially rich in species.
