Sarah heads Corporate Support, Industry Insights and Engagements, the function she led its establishment and is the corporate center in charge of developing the Company’s positions and policies on climate, sustainability, energy, and material transitions, amongst other global issues. Sarah also oversees the global engagements and partnerships program and has led the expansion of the corporate dialogue network in North America, Asia, and Africa, in addition to managing long-standing relationships such as with the World Economic Forum and B20. She led a corporate team contributing to developing the Circular Carbon Economy framework during the Saudi Arabian Presidency of G20 and led multiple initiatives in Strategy & Market Analysis, Corporate Affairs Policies and Regulations, Downstream, and Public Affairs in Kingdom and internationally. Sarah has more than 16 years of global expertise in development, trade, energy, and climate policy design, implementation, and evaluation. Prior to this role, Sarah joined the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Energy in 2012 as the first Saudi female to represent the Kingdom in multilateral climate negotiations. She had multiple roles in the United Nations, UNFCCC, IPCC, WTO, and IMF, in addition to the League of Arab States and Gulf Cooperation Council. She also served as a member of various regional groups, national teams, and international committees, including the legal Compliance Committee of the Kyoto Protocol, and the national committee that led the development of KSA’s first NDC. Sarah served as a Presiding Officer of UNFCCC; in 2015, she was the Facilitator of crafting the legal provisions and establishing the Implementation and Compliance Committee of the Paris Agreement. Right after COP 21, Sarah Co-Chaired the Working Group on the Paris Agreement. She successfully managed negotiations between 196 Member States to agree on detailed guidance on NDCs, transparency framework, global stocktake, new collective goal on finance, the Green Climate Fund, the Global Environment Facility, and Adaptation Fund, among other technical guidelines of the Paris Agreement Rulebook. Sarah holds a Master of International Affairs in International Economic Policy from Columbia University. She interned at the United Nations in New York, covering UNGA and ECOSOC, and is also a fellow of OPEC.
