Dhaka Metro: The First Metro Train Just Opened in Bangladesh

On 28 December, Dhaka in Bangladesh unveiled its new mass transit system, Dhaka Metro, and many residents queued from early in the morning to take their first ride. More than 20 million people live in Dhaka. Which suffers from traffic congestion so bad it costs 2.9% of the country’s GDP. Line 6 took 6 years to build and cost $3.3 billion Dhaka Metro is expected to transport 60,000 passengers an hour at present. There are just 2 stations, but more will be added this year. The entire network will feature 6 lines and more than 100 stations. Apart from easing pollution and saving time, the Dhaka Metro will have train carriages reserved only for women.
