Dr. Eisaku Ito is the President and CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), effective April 1, 2025, leading a group, that is an innovative company that combines technology and human resources based on sustainability and trust, with a workforce of approximately 80,000 employees and $33 billion in annual revenue.
His career has been marked by many remarkable achievements. Prior to current position, Dr. Ito was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and focused on promoting shared technologies across the whole of MHI Group. He has emphasized the importance of leveraging internal capabilities and adapting to new trends, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation (DX), which are increasingly relevant in today's industrial landscape.
Dr. Ito began his career at the MHI Takasago, where he worked on developing a new gas turbine. His team not only engaged in research but also combined design and development efforts, occasionally venturing into projects related to rocket engines, turbochargers, and military jet engines, as these technologies share a common foundation.
Over the course of about 30 years at MHI Takasago, Dr. Ito gained extensive experience across all areas of development, from design to experimentation and simulation. This hands-on experience has allowed him to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications, solidifying his expertise as an engineer and also giving him the experience needed to lead an engineering company.
Dr. Ito was born in Tottori Prefecture, in western part of Japan, in 1963. He holds a degree from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Tokyo and Doctorate in Engineering from the Kyushu University. Dr. Ito furthered his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in a gas turbine laboratory.
