In 2022 the world's population surpassed eight billion and is set to continue growing. This growth makes it crucial to transform global food systems to meet the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Blue foods from oceans, rivers and lakes offer a promising solution. As the world's most highly traded food products, they provide livelihoods for millions and healthy, sustainable nutrition for billions. The aquaculture industry must lead and collaborate in addressing the challenges of meeting the growing demand for these foods while preserving critical habitats and biodiversity.

This roadmap, produced by the World Economic Forum's Blue Food Partnership, in collaboration with FUTUREFISH, is an instrumental guide for transformative action across aquaculture value chains and the sector overall. It is grounded in a systems change approach, offering four pathways with recommendations to scale the sector within nature's limits while achieving greater social, economic and environmental benefits. The roadmap is an invitation for all relevant stakeholders engaged in aquaculture to collaborate towards a more sustainable future for people, nature and climate.
