Energy Transition Readiness: Latin America and the Caribbean

Energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean is at a crossroads, according to the World Economic Forum’s Energy Transition Readiness Assessment (ETRA) 2025. This paper, developed with OLADE and Accenture, draws on the Energy Transition Index (ETI) and finds that while the region has some of the most favourable structural conditions worldwide – abundant renewables, critical mineral wealth and relatively low fossil fuel dependence – progress in transition readiness has not kept pace. It outlines pathways for accelerating progress: advancing policy reform, scaling private investment, modernizing energy infrastructure and building regional interconnections. It also suggests investing in people, accelerating innovation and fostering cooperation across countries.
