Recognized writer and public speaker on conflict, peacebuilding and humanitarian issues. Member of the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund Advisory Group. Commissioner, UNFPA’s ICPD25 High-Level Commission. Member of the High-Level Group on Humanitarian Resilience, the Digital Currency Governance Consortium Steering Committee and the Global Future Council on the New Agenda for Fragility and Resilience of the World Economic Forum. Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees, Muslim Aid. Member of the Governing Board, The New Humanitarian. Has served on a range of advisory boards, including Oxford University's Refugees Studies Centre and the UN Association of the UK. Editor-in-Chief, Disasters journal. Served on the Independent Team of Advisers to the ECOSOC Dialogue on the reform of the UN development system. Previously led a high-profile UN response in Sudan's Nuba Mountains. Former Lecturer, University of Dar es Salaam. Acted as an observer at the IGAD Sudan peace process. PhD in Politics and International Studies.
