概要
Premier the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, is Bermuda’s 13th and youngest Premier, having been elected to the Government of Bermuda’s highest office at the age of 38. He leads a stable government with a sustained mandate for reform in a small, globally connected jurisdiction. Premier Burt graduated from Florida Air Academy, where he earned his private pilot’s licence as a teenager. He is an alumnus of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Information Systems. He later received a Master of Science in Information Systems Development as a George Washington University Presidential Administrative Fellow and attained Project Management Professional certification in 2009. Before entering public life, Premier Burt was an entrepreneur in the technology sector. In 2004, he founded GMD Consulting Limited, an IT and project management firm, and later co-founded HITCH Limited, serving as lead developer of the award-winning HITCH mobile application, which modernised taxi hailing in Bermuda. As Leader of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party since 2016, Premier Burt has led his party to three consecutive general election victories, providing continuity and political stability. As Premier, he has overseen the introduction of Bermuda’s first statutory minimum wage, reductions in payroll taxes for working Bermudians to historically low levels, reforms to increase progressivity within the tax system, and fiscal measures that supported economic recovery while restoring public finances. Under his leadership, Bermuda has made record investments in affordable housing, introduced a Mortgage Guarantee Programme to expand access to home ownership, increased funding for education and workforce development, and raised seniors’ pensions on seven occasions in line with inflation. These measures were implemented alongside fiscal consolidation, resulting in Bermuda’s first budget surplus in more than two decades. Premier Burt has led Bermuda’s positioning as an international centre for digital finance. His government established one of the world’s earliest comprehensive regulatory frameworks for digital assets and continues to engage internationally on financial innovation, digital trust, and emerging technologies, including the evolving relationship between digital finance and artificial intelligence. Premier Burt has previously served on the Bermuda Tourism Board, the National Training Board, and as a Director of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation. He was initiated into the Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, in 1998. He is married to his wife Kristin, and they have two children.
