Abraham Baffoe

Regional Director, Africa, Proforest

Abraham holds an MSc in Forestry and Environmental Policy from the Louisiana State University, USA, and has over two decades of experience working on natural resource management, specialising in the development and implementation of sustainability standards. His experience includes providing technical support to sustainability certification standards setting and implementation of those standards in practice. Abraham is an enthusiastic advocate for sustainable development in the forestry and agricultural sectors. As the founder of Proforest Africa, Abraham has dedicated his career to addressing issues of deforestation, climate, and rural poverty. He has successfully led initiatives and programmes that have addressed deforestation and have transformed the lives of vulnerable populations and empowered local communities.
Abraham leads on the development and implementation of Proforest’s projects and programmes in Africa including supporting both the public and private sector companies with the development and practical implementation of sustainability policies in both the forestry and agriculture commodity production sectors. He sits on the Steering Committee of the Tropical Forest Alliance and the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling (ISEAL) Stakeholder Council.
Abraham and Prof John Ehrman of Meridian Institute facilitated the initial meeting the programme that brought together high-level representatives from governments, companies, and civil society organisations to discuss and collectively agree on a system change for oil palm expansion in Africa.
Outside of work, he enjoys watching football games and mentoring young professionals interested in pursuing a career in natural resources management.
