Launched in 2002 with the vision of an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena, the African Union Commission has shifted focus to spearhead Africa's development and integration. Its objectives are, among others, to achieve greater unity and solidarity between African countries and the peoples of Africa, to accelerate the political and socioeconomic integration of the continent, and to promote peace, security and stability on the continent.
