Francesca Bosco is Deputy Head of Programme (Acting Head) of the Security and Technology Programme at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), where she works on the security and governance implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. An international lawyer by training, she has more than two decades of experience at the intersection of technology, international security, digital resilience and human rights. She previously held senior leadership positions at the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and Protect.NGO, where she served as Chief Strategy Officer. Her work brings together governments, international organisations, civil society, academia, the private sector and philanthropic actors to translate technological developments into governance, policy and practical approaches that strengthen resilience and advance responsible, public-interest technology. She serves on international boards, advisory and expert bodies spanning AI, cybersecurity, technology governance and digital resilience, and contributes to initiatives exploring new models of collective investment and philanthropy for the digital commons.
