This project aims aims to enable faster, safer, cleaner and more affordable mobility for people and goods by integrating disparate transportation modes such as micromobility, public transit and autonomous vehicles into a seamless integrated mobility system (SIMSystem).
In June 2018, the SIMSystem project announced its collaboration with Detroit, and Ann Arbor in the US and Windsor in Canada to pilot the principles of a seamless integrated mobility system to improve the lives of the region’s citizens. The partnership with Detroit, Ann Arbor and Windsor has been bringing to life the guiding principles for an interoperable mobility system fostered through public-private collaboration as detailed in the SIMSystem Manifesto (January 2018). The cities of Detroit, Ann Arbor and Windsor have built regional cohesion across three cities and an international border to tackle their mobility opportunities, with the support of the World Economic Forum and the SIMSystem Working Group. Primary mobility challenges addressed include the lack of connectivity between transport modes, increased congestion and evolving mobility needs of underserved populations.
The region has been working on 3 workstreams:
1) Establishing the human and technical requirements to launch the digital infrastructure necessary to support a seamless integrated mobility system, including building a data warehouse and forming public-private partnerships for an integrated digital mobility platform
2) Designing and activating a framework to define, identify and map mobility deserts so they can be integrated in public and private strategic planning
3) Launching an employer-sponsored regional mobility solution leveraging new technologies across an international border
