Industry Net Zero Accelerator

Context

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) paints a stark picture for the future of our planet. Upcoming regulations will force companies to act on their commitments to net zero to secure their license to operate, their competitiveness and market share. Despite the commitments companies and governments are putting in place to get to net zero manufacturers around the world are still struggling to accelerate their firm’s sustainability journey. Companies are facing significant challenges: wide range of solutions, incompleteness of data; and complex modification of products, processes and value chains. Global supply chains reconfigurations will also lead to the acceleration of new-build factory projects which must integrate net zero principles by design.

In this regard, and to move forward with confidence, manufacturers seeking to accelerate their net zero journey could benefit from having a cross-industry space in which to collaborate and share insights with like-minded peers facing similar and transversal challenges.

Opportunity

With this objective in mind, the World Economic Forum, in collaboration Capgemini and Siemens, and with the support of with Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy (Cambridge University) as the academic partner are launching the “Industry Net Zero Accelerator” initiative to help accelerate the transition to net zero operations, by or before 2050.

The initiative aims to establish a cross-industry space for executives in the production ecosystem to share knowledge and support the adoption of innovations at an accelerated pace to reach net zero targets. It seeks to create a global movement of companies, aligning and amplifying their efforts.

The initiative will support the incubation and scaling of Estainium as a neutral platform to accelerate solutions for getting to net zero.
