現在、世界には人の数を上回る数のコネクテッドデバイスが出回っています。モノのインターネット(IoT)として知られるこれらのデバイスは、エネルギー使用量を監視および管理するスマート・ビルディング・テクノロジーから、衝突の危険性を予測して回避するコネクテッドカーに至るまで、さまざまな形態があります。2025年までに、継続的なテクノロジーの進歩とコンピューティング、ストレージ、接続にかかるコスト急落により、IoTデバイスの数は400億台を超えると予測されています。
日常生活のあらゆる場面にIoTテクノロジーが導入され、さらには人体にも組み込まれるようになり、データの所有権、正確性、プライバシー保護に関する問題がますます重要度を増しています。同様に、配電システム、公共インフラ、車両、自宅、職場に遠隔でアクセス・操作できる相互接続された世界では、サイバー攻撃に対する脆弱性やセキュリティ侵害が、深刻な被害をもたらす可能性がかつてないほど高くなっているのです。
