世界の平均気温は上昇の一途をたどっており、まもなく+3℃にもなる勢いです。これは、海面の上昇により数百万世帯もの家屋が飲み込まれることを意味するだけでなく、移民の増加、食料や水の供給への影響、サプライチェーンの混乱を招き、世界経済に大きな打撃を与えます。世界経済フォーラムの「グローバルリスク報告書2021年版」は、気候変動を最も重大な脅威がもたらされるリスクのひとつとして警告しています。
パリ協定は、気温上昇を2℃未満(理想的には1.5℃)に抑えることを目指し各国が行動することを目標に掲げていますが、実現するためには、温室効果ガス排出量の大幅な削減が急がれます。
世界経済フォーラムは、政府、企業、科学者、イノベーター、コミュニティを結集し、目標達成に向けた取り組みを加速。「クライメート・アクション・プラットフォーム」を立ち上げ、人類、自然、気候を最優先する未来を形作るため、3つのアプローチを導入しています。
これらの取り組みは、重工業、エネルギー、土地利用、消費財、金融市場など、1,000社を超えるビジネスパートナーと連携し、進められています。また、市民社会、起業家、若者、テクノロジー・パイオニアなど、1,000人を超えるステークホルダーを動員すると同時に、気候変動対策を推進する政府の主要リーダーとも連携し、TopLink(当フォーラムのデジタルコラボレーションプラットフォーム)の6万人を超えるメンバー、2万7,000人のデジタル会員、2,500万人のソーシャルメディアのフォロワーのエンゲージメント向上を図っています。
