As the unfolding global economic crisis is putting into stark contrast the inadequacies in existing structures, economists, in both the public and private sectors, will need to play a critical role in helping to fundamentally reimagine the current economic system and provide guidance on how to build back more inclusive and sustainable economies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To rise to this challenge, the World Economic Forum’s Community of Chief Economists is designed to:
· Understand the evolving contours of the economy in the context of the pandemic and other unfolding technological, social and political developments
· Identify the most promising ideas to build back better, greener and fairer economies
· Develop narratives, strategies and tools to shape the economic reset, recovery and rebuild
The Community was established in November 2019 and includes Chief Economists from the finance, insurance, professional services and technology industries as well as international organizations and regional development banks. Membership is open to current partners of the New Economy and Society Platform as well as Chief Economists across the Forum’s business stakeholders and other communities seeking to actively contribute to peer-to-peer learning and exchange in the context of the current crisis.
