Wilma Wallace

General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI)

Wilma Wallace is a seasoned legal and executive leader of global public and private companies with expertise in addressing organization’s legal, compliance, risk management and ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) functions. As a practicing lawyer, chief legal and compliance officer and business leader, she applies her more than 30 years of experience with global omnichannel retail and sustainability organizations to support their growth with pragmatic yet transformative solutions. Wilma’s current role is as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for REI, Inc., (“the Co-op”) a $3B outdoor and experiences retailer where she is responsible for overseeing all legal, compliance and corporate secretary matters for the Co-op. Wilma is a key member of, and strategic advisor to, the CEO’s executive leadership team and reports to the CEO. Prior to joining REI in 2017, Wilma applied her passion for driving social impact and systems change while serving as General Counsel for an international start-up working to develop and embed sustainable farming practices among small coffee-holder farmers in developing countries. Previously, over the course of a 22 year career at Gap Inc., a $16B publicly traded global retailer, Wilma developed expertise in combining her legal experience and analytical capabilities to provide interdisciplinary solutions to protect, defend and advance the growth of Gap Inc., into one of the most iconic global brands of the 20th century. Wilma began her legal career as a commercial litigator and advisor with a specialty in employment and intellectual property Orrick Harrington and Sutcliffe, and Folger & Levin, LLP in San Francisco California. For over 25 years, Wilma has served on the Board or advisory committees of many non-profit organizations with a focus on global and domestic human and civil rights, particularly among women and marginalized people, and its nexus with the environment and poverty elimination. She currently serves on the Board of Landesa, Camber Outdoors and the World Economic Forum, Global Future Council. Her professional mission is to help businesses grow responsibly in an inclusive, resilient and sustainable way.
