Dr. Poonpat Leesombatpiboon graduated from Thammasat University in economics with major in Econometrics and International Economics. Later he received the Royal Thai Government Scholarship to complete his MSc. in Operational Research at the London School of Economics (LSE). He then came back to serve the government and started his career as civil servant in the area of international energy cooperation. He also served as an assistant to three Energy Ministers and one Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. He has gained extensive knowledge and experience in energy sector, international energy cooperation and politics from such positions. Later he got the scholarship from the Royal Thai Government once again to complete his Ph.D. in Economics in the USA at the George Washington University. During his study in the USA, he also served as a consultant at the World Bank for the Project relating to the natural resources in the Asian Region. He is now in charge of the Executive Director, International Energy Cooperation Office. One of his successful contributions to the ASEAN energy connectivity is the finalization of the agreement between the three countries in the first multilateral ASEAN power trade known as Lao-Thailand- Malaysia Power Integration Project (LTM-PIP).
