As the Engagement Officer of the Advisory Network for the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, Erika works with the WRI Oceans Team to ensure the success of the Panel, the Expert Groups and Advisory Network to operate effectively and deliver a transformative report in 2020.
Prior to joining WRI, Erika worked as an environmental consultant and advisor. She was the Founder and President of the Consulting Network Planet 4 People. She was as the Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Program of the UN Foundation, and was the founding Executive Director of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the first global organization addressing sustainable tourism. In this process she spearhead the development of the first international criteria for sustainable tourism. Prior to joining the environmental community Erika served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General of the Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington, DC. She has focused her career in support of the United Nations’ conservation and development priorities.
Erika holds a Masters Degree in Natural Resource Management from the Instituto Costarricense de Administración de Empresas (INCAE) and a Law Degree from the University of Costa Rica.
